I love making banana bread, even though I rarely have ripe bananas. Sometimes I buy bananas and I don’t let anyone eat them just until they can ripen and I can use them for banana bread!

Classic Banana Bread Recipe

I love the banana bread from Costco, but I always find it too sweet for my taste, however, I love how moist it is. I have made it my mission over the years to make my own version but slightly sweetened, or sweetened to my taste. It’s safe to say that I’ve been making this banana nut bread for decades and have had a lot of time perfecting it.

Be sure to check out the tips below for the best banana bread ever, and if you follow all my tips and instructions, it will be impossible for you to fail with this recipe.

Every oven is different, so don’t worry if your bread isn’t ready after 45 minutes. Have clean toothpicks ready, and test your bread by placing a toothpick in the center of the bread. If it comes out with a little batter, add 5-10 more minutes at a time until a toothpick comes out clean.

If you want a dairy-free version, skip the yogurt and just add the applesauce. This is something I always do because hubs go through stages and the last stage he went through he thought he was lactose intolerant, so I had to make all kinds of dairy-free recipes.

Ultimate Banana Bread

There are two great methods you can use if you want banana bread, but your bananas aren’t ready.

1. Place the bananas on a baking sheet and bake them at 250°F for 10-20 minutes. It depends on how ripe your bananas are to begin with. Check them and add time as you see fit.

Extra day, put your bananas in a paper bag and wrap the top to seal the air. This leaves them in a bag full of their own ethylene, which causes them to ripen. Adding apples, figs, or pears to the bag will help them ripen a little more.

Now’s your chance to customize this heavenly bread! I love mixing chocolate chips into my banana nut bread. Vary the type of nuts you use, or dried fruit like raisins or cranberries are great additions!

Banana Nut Crunch Bread

Wrap the banana nut tightly with plastic wrap or you can store it in an airtight container. It will last on your counter for 3 days, or in the fridge for about a week. I like to microwave my banana bread slices for 20-30 seconds to soften, especially if it’s been in the fridge.

Freeze the banana bread. Freeze whole bread or individual slices. This will last in the freezer for 3 to 4 months!

Wrap the bread or individual slices tightly in plastic wrap, even if stored in an airtight container. The bread will provide some moisture which will cause the ice cream to burn without plastic wrap. Let it melt completely at room temperature.

Best Banana Bread Recipe Ever

Because it really is the best banana bread recipe, period. You can mix everything in a bowl, you can change the amount of sugar or bananas. And the secret to its delicious taste? Melted butter.

The beauty of this banana bread recipe is that you don’t need a fancy mix! A mixing bowl, a fork to mix the eggs, and a sturdy spoon to mix the batter is all you need. The amount of sugar is flexible. The original recipe calls for a cup of white sugar, but most people, including me, are fine with 3/4 cup, and many are happy with 1/2 cup.

You can throw in a cup of chopped nuts, raisins, or chocolate chips if you like, or put the batter in muffin tins and make banana nut muffins instead. You can even go a step further and make chocolate banana bread.

I got this banana bread recipe a few years ago from my friend Heidi H, who, many years ago, requested the recipe from a ski buddy’s mom – Mrs. Hockmeyer. Thank you Heidi!

This recipe calls for an 8- x 4-inch loaf pan, which makes a tall loaf. The recipe also works in an 8 1/2- x 4 1/2-inch pan, which makes a slightly shorter loaf. Since the pan is slightly larger, the cooking time is shorter: 47 to 57 minutes. A 9- x 5-inch pan will make a short but still tasty loaf; bake for 45 to 55 minutes.

No mixer required for this recipe! Cleaning is also easy. If you want, you can mix everything in a bowl.

One reader, Sharon, said: “I’ve made lots of banana bread over the years, but this is by far my favourite! Easy to make, very moist without being too ‘cakey’, and full of flavor! Definitely a keeper!”

This is my favorite banana bread recipe, one that I have loved for years. This is one of those classic recipes that you start to know by heart, like a good crust pie recipe or chocolate chip cookies. This bread is the first thing that comes to mind when I have speckled bananas on the counter and the bread that keeps making the rounds in my freezer stash. This is the best banana bread recipe and if you haven’t tried it yet, now is the time.

Vegan Banana Bread With Toasted Walnuts And Coconut

I have tried many basic banana bread recipes and this is my favorite. Readers fell in love too! What makes this one good? This banana bread has the most bananas of any banana bread I’ve ever made. 2 full cups of mashed bananas, which is about 4 large bananas. More bananas add more moisture and flavor to the finished product.

Did you know you can use your electric mixer to mash bananas? Break or slice the diced bananas into large chunks and place them in the bowl of your stand mixer – or use a regular mixing bowl and your hand mixer. Start beating on low, then gradually increase to medium speed as the bananas break down into mashed bananas. Transfer the bananas to another bowl and use the mixing bowl for the banana bread crumbs. (No purging required – some mashed banana chips are fine.)

For banana nut bread, add 3/4 cup chopped nuts to the banana bread pan; I like to use pecans or walnuts. I absolutely love the sweet, savory and little crunch found inside the soft banana bread crumbs. Don’t hesitate
