First, use certified gluten-free oats processed in equipment free of wheat, barley or other contaminants. For best results, use a high-powered blender or food processor such as a Vitamix.

Place the oats in the processor as much flour as you need. Mix the oats until they form a fine, powdery dough, about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Make sure you don’t have large oats, if you do, mix again.

It can be made entirely in a bread maker, or you can use a bread machine or stand mixer to mix the dough, then bake in a conventional oven.

My kids love porridge. This is one of the first breads I made and they still ask for it. One year, when my youngest son came for spring break, in the middle of the week, he said, “I think I’ll try oatmeal. Really good!” In short, advice!

My oldest son and his girlfriend were visiting, so I took the opportunity to bake their favorite oatmeal bread. However, this time I changed things up by adding some einkorn flour and steel cut oats.

I usually make this bread in a bread machine, but this time I made the dough in a bread maker and baked the bread in a regular oven. I like the results. So are my sons.

This Oatmeal Original was one of the first breads I made in the bread machine. He asked for jaggery, but I substituted honey. Its taste is mild, that’s why we like it more.

Quick And Easy Steel Cut Oat Bread

Measure and add the liquid ingredients to the baking pan. Measure and add the dry ingredients (except the yeast) to the baking pan.

With your finger, make a well (hole) in the dough where you can pour the yeast. Measure the yeast and carefully pour it into the well. Place the baking pan in the bread maker and close the lid. Make sure the yeast does not touch the liquid when adding the ingredients.

To make this bread completely in the bread maker, select the “Sweet” option by pressing the “Select” button. Click the “Crust Color” button to select a light, medium or dark crust. Press the “Start/Stop” button.

To mix the dough in a bread machine and bake in a conventional oven, press the “Select” button to select the “Dough” option. Press the “Start/Stop” button.

Whole Wheat Oat Bread [vegan]

Once the dough is ready, take it out on a lightly floured table and shape it into a loaf.

Place the bread in a loaf pan and cover with plastic wrap. I tested this loaf in an 8 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ loaf pan and a 9″ x 5″ pan. The batter really rose in the 8 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ pan and was a little heavy. A 9″ x 5″ loaf pan works best. This resulted in a uniform bread, not heavy.

350 degrees F. Bake until the bread is golden brown on top and the bottom feels hollow when tapped, about 30-40 minutes. Remove the bread from the pan and cool in the refrigerator.

Slice and enjoy. This bread is very light and delicious and has a little crunch thanks to the steel cut oats. Einkorn flour gives a beautiful color.
