Naan Bread Made With Yogurt
I love to make homemade bread and of course my whole family loves to eat it. I’ve had naan in restaurants before and I don’t know why I waited so long to try it at home. This naan recipe is so easy and so delicious!
Whole Wheat Naan
Naan bread is traditionally served with Indian dishes like curry, but to be honest, I work in the afternoon and the kids eat it after school. I scored some major points for the moms because they were all excited when they came in from the cold to find hot homemade bread!
What is the difference between pita bread and naan? Unlike pita bread, naan usually contains yogurt, which makes it soft. Both are fritters and often served the same way, but made differently, causing differences in texture.
You start by making a basic yeast dough. Combine warm water, yeast and sugar in a large bowl and let sit for a few minutes.
Then add butter, yogurt, eggs, salt and enough flour to make a smooth dough. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover and let it rise until doubled.
Soft And Fluffy Naan
Cut the dough into eight pieces. On a floured surface, roll each portion into a circle about 6 inches in diameter.
Heat the pan to medium heat. Add a little oil or non-stick spray. Place a circle of dough in the center of the pan and bake until bubbly and golden on the bottom. It takes 2-3 minutes. Turn over and cook the other side for 2-3 minutes or until golden.
Brush hot naan bread with melted butter. I added minced garlic to the oil and it was amazing! We even topped ours with chopped fresh parsley and it was the perfect addition to this easy naan bread.
How long does naan last? We recommend storing this bread in a Ziploc bag. At room temperature, naan bread should keep on the counter for 5-7 days. People who refrigerate it can usually squeeze out a few more days.
Easy To Make Naan Recipe
How do you freeze naan bread? Freezing naan is easy. Simply wrap in Saran Wrap or foil and for added security place in a Ziploc freezer bag and store in the freezer for up to 3 months. Allow to melt and reheat in the oven or microwave.

Easy Naan Bread Recipe
Fritters have become a popular dish in restaurants and grocery stores in recent years, but they are definitely not a new invention. Most likely, it has a long history that goes back to ancient Egypt. Over the years, many other cultures, including India, Armenia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Turkey, have come up with their own version of flatbread, each with slightly different characteristics. What is interesting is that some countries, such as Turkey, have many types of tortillas, and each region of the country has its own version.
Tortilla is a staple in Turkey, and there are shops that exclusively sell this simple, delicious type of bread. His face was amazing. I read about Pide, Lahmacun, Gözleme, Yufka, Lahmacun and Bazlama to name a few. The main difference is in the shape, fillings and cooking method.
The Turkish flatbread recipe I’m sharing today is baslama. Baslama is similar to naan and is often grilled over an open fire in Turkey. Bazlama is also called “village bread” because it is often sold in stalls in Turkish markets. One of the distinctive features of Bazlama is that it is made with Greek yogurt, which makes the bread very soft and gives it a delicious taste.
The list of ingredients for this Bazlama, like most flatbreads, is very simple: yeast, sugar, water, flour, yogurt, and salt. The dough is mixed by hand in a bowl, then it goes out on the counter for a short time of kneading. Then cover with a lid and leave for 15 minutes, after which you can roll the circle. A short stint in the hot pan and you will be hard-pressed not to eat these flavorful, tender fritters themselves. (Don’t ask how I know!)

Whole Wheat Naan Bread
As you can see, the ingredients are very simple. Yogurt and olive oil add a little flavor and richness. Anise seeds add just a hint of licorice flavor; feel free to leave them out or replace them with chia seeds (which have a subtle garlic flavor), poppy seeds, or sesame seeds.
To begin, combine flour, yeast, sugar, aniseed and salt in a large bowl, then mix.
Let rise in a warm place until about double in size, 1 to 1-1/2 hours. Hint: The warmer the place, the faster it will rise.
Fill a small bowl with flour. Sprinkle some flour on the work surface. Place the dough on top and dust the dough with more flour.
Easy Naan Bread (from Scratch Recipe)
Heat a cast iron or heavy nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until very hot. While it’s heating, roll one of the dough balls into a rectangle about 1/8 inch thick.
Place the dough in a hot, dry pan and bake until the surface is filled with air bubbles and the bottom is browned and blistered.
