How Many Calories In A Tim Hortons Blueberry Muffin – There’s no doubt that Timmy’s is an icon in Canada, being the largest fast food chain in the entire country (yes, even above McDonald’s!). Tim’s recently made a few changes that could make or break your weight-loss efforts—with some careful consideration and a little advance planning, you can walk in and out the door with plenty of healthy food in your belly.
One recent addition to Tim’s menu is the egg white omelette breakfast sandwich (pictured above). If you opt for the ham and whole grain English muffin, it comes out to a very reasonable 240 calories, 17 grams of protein and 7 grams of fat. This is a big improvement over the standard Tim’s Breakfast Sandwich with a homemade biscuit with the same ham and cheese, which has 400 calories and 21 grams of fat.

Speaking of coffee, Tim’s recently increased its serving size. Now, if you order a large coffee, you’ll get a 20oz instead of a 14oz (the old 14oz large is now a “medium”). In terms of calories, the coffee itself doesn’t affect the calories, it does what you put in it. A large double double now has 280 calories, up from 230 calories in the older serving size. The extra calories in this larger serving translates to a 5-pound weight gain per year if you drink one a day.

If you replace the milk and splend with cream and sugar in your Large Double Double, the calorie count will drop from 280 calories to 60 calories.
Tim Hortons has done a great job of making their nutritional information readily available online so you can enter your food choices into a nutrition calculator to see the calorie impact of what you choose to eat. It’s very user-friendly, with a mouse click or two it’s easy to compare different food and drink options to see where the caloric balance comes out.
To estimate these numbers, you can estimate the total number of calories you need per day using the “BMR Calculator” in the right column of this screen.
So while it’s best to keep fast food to a minimum, there are healthier options to choose from, as a little background research confirms. Before your next trip to Tim’s, take a moment to reflect on what you usually order and consider making some small changes to make your meal healthier!

How can a baked sweet treat be better for us than healthy muffins? While this may not apply to the homemade buns your mom lovingly bakes for you, it certainly is when it comes to buns from major fast food chains. Contrary to logic, donuts seem to be better than muffins, and let me explain why.
In this article, let’s compare two different Tim Hortons products: the Chocolate Dipped Donut and the Fruit Explosion Muffin. A donut has 190 calories, 6 grams of fat (2.5 saturated), 210 mg of sodium and 10 g of sugar. Pancakes have 340 calories, 10g fat (1.5g saturated and 0.1g trans), 470mg sodium and 25g sugar.
Looking at these nutrition facts, a donut has almost half the calories and less than half the sugar of a muffin. Pancakes also contain trans fats, which are said to be the worst fats we should try to avoid as much as possible.
The Skinny On Tim Hortons
Usually, when you grab a blueberry muffin for breakfast from a fast food store in the morning, you think you’ve made a good and healthy decision.
This can be dangerous because we think that if we eat healthy throughout the day, we are rewarding ourselves with something tasty (but not healthy) for a job well done.
Since it turns out that muffins are bad for you, you’re rewarding yourself with a treat, which just doesn’t make sense. Muffins are better treated as an occasional treat, like pies, doughnuts, fries, and other tasty, unhealthy foods.
Usually, when you get a bun from a fast food place like Tim Horton’s or McDonald’s, it’s huge and not the size you’re used to seeing in home baked goods. This large portion size makes donuts better for you than muffins. Donuts are usually pretty small, so as long as you only keep one, they’re not too bad. Too much of a good thing is definitely a bad thing in this case.

If you’re worried about salt, better watch out for Tim’s soups. Half of the soaps they offer contain about half the amount of sodium your body needs in a day.
Some sandwiches are also high in sodium. A regular-sized ham and Swiss sandwich (which used to be my favorite) contains 1,450 mg of sodium, just 50 mg less than Health Canada’s recommended daily allowance.
And keep in mind that some soup and sandwich combinations are no better—calories, fat, and sodium—than certain fast food options.
For example: A regular-sized ham and Swiss sandwich with a bowl of chicken noodle soup, a chocolate chip cookie and a large double with cream has 950 calories, 34.5 g of fat and 2,380 mg of sodium. It’s about the same amount of calories and fat, and rightly so
