Because this really is the best banana bread recipe ever, period. You can mix everything together in a bowl, you can vary the amount of sugar or bananas. And what is the secret of its great taste? Melted butter.
The beauty of this banana bread recipe is that you don’t need a fancy mixer! All you need is a mixing bowl, a fork to beat the eggs and a sturdy spoon to mix the batter. The amount of sugar is flexible. The original recipe called for one cup of white sugar, but most people, myself included, are fine with 3/4 cup, and many are happy with 1/2 cup.
If you want, you can throw chopped nuts, raisins or chocolate chips in the cup or put the batter in muffin tins and make banana muffins instead. You can even go a step further and make chocolate banana bread.

Healthy Chocolate Banana Bread
This recipe calls for an 8×4-inch loaf pan that will make a tall loaf. The recipe also works in an 8 1/2-x4 1/2-inch pan, making a slightly shorter loaf. Since the baking tray is slightly larger, the cooking time is shorter: 47-57 minutes. A 9×5-inch pan makes an extra short but still tasty loaf; Bake for 45-55 minutes.
No mixer needed for this recipe! Cleaning is also easy. If you want, you can mix everything in a bowl.

I make my regular banana bread with butter and all purpose flour because it’s all good. Well, after 1 bite of this “whatever, it’s not going to be good” banana bread, I was proven wrong.

Plus, this whole wheat banana bread slices and freezes like a dream. I like to keep a bagel ready in the freezer for when I need a homemade breakfast or a healthy snack for all of us, adults and toddlers alike. We all love it. (Especially if you spread peanut butter on each slice!)
Did you know that you can also mash bananas with an electric mixer? Mash or slice the peeled spotted banana into large chunks and place in the bowl of a stand mixer – or use a regular stand mixer bowl and hand blender. Start on low and gradually increase to medium-high speed as the bananas break down into mashed bananas. You can use this bowl for the rest of the banana bread ingredients. I do the same with my banana cake!
Butter and oil are replaced with unsweetened applesauce. Plus, I’m very light on added sugars – we really want the banana flavor to shine through here. If you don’t want to add refined sweeteners to this healthier banana bread recipe, replace the brown sugar with coconut sugar. To keep this banana bread dairy-free, use non-dairy milk.
