Easy Moist Banana Nut Bread – This is the best banana nut bread in town with just 1 bowl and simple pantry ingredients. You’re only an hour away from moist, lightly sweet, delicious banana bread! If you’ve spotted bananas lying around, this recipe is for you. Similar to my classic banana bread and family favorite banana bread muffins, only loaded with walnuts for a buttery crunch.
Today I am very happy to share the best banana nut bread recipe because honestly, I prefer banana bread with nuts. Some people are banana bread lovers, and others prefer chocolate chip, but I’m in the nuts category (although, to be honest, I’ve never met a banana bread that I didn’t like). This is a delicious, adaptable, moist banana bread recipe that almost fails. It is the epitome of comfort and happiness, and I always have bananas spotted around the end of the week.
Easy Moist Banana Nut Bread
I created this recipe using special ingredients to keep the bread as moist as possible. Things like mashed bananas, butter, oil and buttermilk add moisture to banana bread so it’s still soft and fluffy when baked. Also, watch the clock while cooking this so you don’t overcook it! Baked, dark and dry banana bread is not tasty.
Chocolate Banana Bread Story
I use the light-colored baking pan, the edges do not darken as quickly. Since scones usually take about an hour in the oven, you’ll want to limit how brown the sides are. If you use a non-stick, darker metal pan, you’ll end up with really crispy edges. If you like crispy edges, then more power to you. But I love a soft loaf all the way, and I find that a lighter baking pan is the way to achieve this. If you take your bread out of the pan and it has slightly crisp edges, wrap it in plastic wrap for an hour or two while it’s still warm (not to be confused with hot). This softens the edges upwards.
Nuts contain oils, and if they’ve been sitting on your pantry shelf for a while, the oils will go bad. This goes for any nut, not just a nut! If you try a nut right out of the package, you should be able to tell if it’s rotten. (It should have a stronger, unpleasant taste.) Since half of the recipe is bananas and the other half is mostly nuts, you want to make sure you use the tastiest and freshest ones.
This is just a rule of thumb for any baking recipe. If you want clean and nice slices, wait until completely cool. If you really don’t care, cut it! Even if warm banana bread doesn’t look absolutely perfect, it’s hard to beat.
My recipe for my banana nut bread obviously calls for walnuts (the classic), but see my adaptations below. See the printable recipe card below for full recipe details and ingredient measurements.

Gradually add the dry ingredients with the buttermilk until a smooth dough comes together. Stir in the chopped walnuts by hand. Pour into the prepared baking dish and top with more nuts.
Bake until a toothpick comes out clean with a few moist crumbs attached. Cool for at least 15 minutes before removing from the hot pan and slicing.

To frost: Let the bread cool completely. Wrap the bread in 2-3 layers of plastic wrap or aluminum foil before placing it in a zip lock bag or freezer safe container. Banana bread will stay fresh in the freezer for up to 3-4 months.
