Banana bread is usually very sweet, but I wanted to create one that wasn’t because I’ve had a lot of requests for low sugar recipes lately. This banana flavored bread isn’t too sweet on its own. If you prefer a sweet banana bread, you can easily do this by adding a little maple syrup to the batter (about 3 tablespoons) or by adding chocolate chips to the batter.

As this bread contains no flour, it is denser than quick bread. It is also very humid. The ground oats give the bread a bit of a chewy texture.

I would call this banana oat bread the perfect banana bread for breakfast. The oats give it a heartier texture which I think makes it perfect for breakfast. It’s a recipe that will last a while and give you the energy to make it through the morning. And although it is sweet, it is not too sweet. Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Grease a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan. You can also line the pan with parchment paper and then spray with non-stick cooking spray.

In a large bowl, combine the brown sugar, vegetable oil, milk and eggs. Mix until combined. Stir in the bananas.

In another bowl, mix the oats, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add the dry ingredient to the wet ingredients all at once and mix until combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Transfer to the oven and bake until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean, about 60 minutes. You will probably need to cover the top with aluminum foil about halfway through the baking time to prevent the bread from browning too much.
