I made this banana bread recipe for my cookbook and wanted to share it with you all here. This recipe has all the hallmarks of a classic banana bread—it’s full of fluffy, moist, sweet banana flavor, and is loved by kids and adults alike.

As you can see, my homemade banana bread has a lot of good qualities, and most importantly, it won’t send your blood sugar levels for a loop. However, you can keep them all to yourself. No one can say that banana bread is healthy!

This recipe is flexible! Any of the following flours will work well. I like to use white whole wheat flour and whole wheat pastry flour—they provide all the nutrients of whole wheat, without the distinctive nutty flavor.

*As a substitute for oat flour, you should use 2 1/2 cups, for the reasons described in my guide to oat flour.

This 3 Ingredient Banana Bread Recipe Is Almost Too Easy Recipe

With this healthy banana bread recipe, you have some simple ingredients to make the best banana bread ever! It is made from whole wheat flour and is naturally sweetened with honey or maple syrup. You can easily make this banana bread vegan or gluten-free—see recipe notes for details. Recipe yields 1 loaf (about 10 slices).

Storage Recommendations: Since this bread is moist, it will only keep at room temperature for two or three days. Store in the refrigerator for five to seven days or in the freezer for up to three months. I like to slice the bread individually before freezing it, either by letting it rest at room temperature or by lightly toasting it.

*Oil substitutes: I love coconut oil here. I used unrefined coconut oil and could not taste it in the final product. If you like it, olive oil can give the muffins an herbal note (I tried California Olive Ranch’s “Every Day” variety and couldn’t taste it either). Vegetable oil has a neutral flavor, but the average vegetable/canola oil is highly processed, so I recommend using cold pressed sunflower oil or grape seed oil if possible.

**Flour substitute: Instead of whole wheat flour, you can use equal amounts of all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, spelled flour, or a gluten-free all-purpose flour mix. Or, substitute 2 cups oatmeal.

Make it vegan: Use maple syrup instead of honey, use flax eggs instead of eggs and choose non-dairy milk (I used almond milk) or water.

Reduce the Fat: I would argue that this bread contains a healthy amount of fat, but you can replace the oil with apple sauce if you follow a low-fat diet.
