Moist Banana Bread With Applesauce Recipe

I am so happy with how it turned out! This banana bread with applesauce is a dense bread, but very moist! It baked evenly and didn’t leave a soggy top or middle like many other recipes I’ve tried.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease and flour a 9×5 metal loaf pan.

If you don’t have applesauce on hand, you can substitute a total of 2 1/3 c. mashed banana. However, applesauce is really the key ingredient to making dense yet moist banana bread!

Once you have mixed all your wet ingredients, combine them with the dry ingredients. Mix by hand lightly and just until moist. Confusion leads to hard bread!

Once you have combined all the ingredients, pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan. Bake on middle rack at 350 degrees for 60-65 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean or slightly moist.

Check after 30 minutes that the top of the bread does not brown too much. If so, apply a thin layer of tin to prevent burning.

Remove from the oven when fully cooked and let cool for 10 minutes before removing the banana bread from the pan and transferring to a wire rack.

I made banana bread that never seems to cook right. Either the dough is clean on top and the bottom is burnt or it sinks after being taken out of the oven. This banana bread with applesauce is moist yet firm, perfect for sliced banana bread!

The initial high baking temperature helps the bread rise while creating a crust. Lowering the temperature then bakes the inside without burning the top, creating a moist inside and a crispy outside.

Greek yogurt can be substituted with whole, 2% or fat-free yogurt or 1 cup sour cream, if desired.

Banana bread will be dense if the batter is overmixed. Mix the ingredients until combined and then pour directly into the bread pan. If your little ones are helping you in the kitchen, give them a specific number to stir as a kid-friendly way to prevent over-stirring.

Store in the fridge wrapped in foil or plastic wrap and in a ziplock bag for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
