This keto-friendly banana bread uses a premium, low-carb flour blend to get the right thickness and moisture in your bread, just like the real thing. Sometimes you really have to use a flour blend to get the “just right” texture, and this is one of those times. The ratio of wet to dry ingredients is important here as it is what provides the right texture. I can tell that I’m obsessed with a lot of different recipes, which might make it a little difficult to convince you to try something. If I love a lot, who exactly?

My whole wheat banana bread totally blew me away. To be honest, I didn’t have high expectations. This bread was simply a way to get rid of 3 overripe bananas and a random jar of applesauce. I make my regular banana bread with butter and all-purpose flour because that’s where all the goodness is hidden. Well, after 1 bite of this “whatever it is, it won’t be good” banana bread, I was proven wrong.

Plus, this Whole Wheat Banana Bread slices and freezes like a dream. I like to keep a loaf of bread in the freezer when I need a homemade breakfast or snacks that are good for all of us – both adults and children. We all love it. (Especially with peanut butter spread on each slice!)

Did you know you can use your electric mixer to mash bananas? Mash or cut the peeled bananas into large pieces and place them in the bowl of your mixer – or use a regular mixing bowl with a hand mixer. Start beating on low, then gradually increase to medium-high speed as the bananas break down into broken bananas. You can use this bowl for the rest of the banana bread ingredients. I do this for my banana cake too!

Sugar-free applesauce takes the place of butter or olive oil. Plus, I’m very light on the added sugar – we really want the banana flavor to shine through here. If you don’t want to add refined sugar to this healthy banana bread recipe, replace the brown sugar with coconut sugar. To make this banana bread dairy-free, use non-dairy milk.

Then mix the dry ingredients and add them to the wet ingredients. You need whole wheat flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Mostly the same dry ingredients I use in my Whole Wheat Banana Muffins. Finally, stir in the chopped walnuts. Nuts are completely optional. Sometimes I add chocolate chips and/or raisins instead.

All are adapted to this simple and incredibly easy recipe, using ingredients you probably already have on hand. I’ve done it over and over again, and it never disappoints!

I’m excited to share with you this wonderfully easy, healthy vegan banana bread that I’ve loved for years, and I’m looking forward to many more!

It’s all about the bananas! Banana bread is easy to veganize by adding extra bananas, which act as a binder, replacing the need for eggs or other egg substitutes. And as an added benefit, it also helps reduce the amount of sugar needed. The trick is to use very ripe, speckled bananas, because the smaller your bananas are, the less sugar you’ll need! This recipe only calls for 1/3 cup of sugar, but of course you can adjust, up or down, to your taste.

Whole Wheat Banana Bread

Fat or fat-free: Instead of using butter or vegetable oil, I look for olive oil. But you will find that this banana bread recipe has the option of using vegan butter or shortening if you prefer. I’ve also played around with using half olive oil and half unsweetened almond milk (equals 1/3 cup) with great results. But if you want to skip the fat altogether, for an ultra-healthy vegan banana bread, try using sugar-free applesauce—it’s great!

Spice up your banana bread with extra toppings and toppings! Add up to 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, add chocolate chips, walnuts or pecans to the dough. Or when the dough is in the bread pan, add some walnuts, pecans, sesame seeds, oats or sunflower seeds on top before baking, they will add texture and add protein.

Level the flour with a spoon! When measuring flour, it is useful to use the ‘spoon and level’ method, this will ensure that you do not add too much flour. Never catch
