Today I am very excited to share the best banana nut bread recipe ever. Some are banana bread fans, others prefer chocolate chip, but I’m in the nut category (honestly, I’ve never met a banana bread I didn’t like). This is a delicious, chewy, moist banana bread recipe that almost never fails. It’s the epitome of comfort and happiness, and by the end of the week I always have a spotted banana.

I created this recipe with special ingredients to keep this bread as moist as possible. Mashed bananas, oil, butter, buttermilk, etc. add moisture to banana bread, so it stays soft and tender after baking. Overfried, blackened and dry banana bread does not taste good.
Grandma’s Banana Nut Bread
I use this light colored bread that doesn’t darken as quickly on the sides. The bread usually bakes in the oven for about an hour, so you want to limit browning on the sides. If you use a pan made of a darker metal with a non-stick coating, the edges will be very crispy. If you like crispy edges, go even further. However, I generally like soft bread and have found that brightly colored bread is the way to go. Wrap in plastic wrap when placed in warm water (not to be confused with warm) for about 2 hours. These edges soften immediately.
Nuts contain oils that oxidize if left on a pantry shelf for too long. This applies to any nut, not just walnuts! You can determine whether a walnut is spoiled by trying it out of the package. Half of this recipe is bananas and the other half is mostly nuts, so make sure you use the tastiest and freshest ones.
This is just a rule of thumb for any bread recipe. If you want a nice, clean cut, wait until it’s completely cool. If you really don’t mind, cut it! Even if it’s not picture perfect, warm banana bread is irresistible.

Best Ever Banana Bread Recipe: How To Make It
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the buttermilk until the batter is smooth. Add the chopped walnuts by hand. Pour into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle with nuts.
Bake until a toothpick comes out clean and a few moist crumbs come out. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before removing from hot pan and slicing.

To keep leftover banana bread moist and soft for as long as possible, store it in a ziplock bag or airtight container, usually on the counter for up to 4 days. You can eat it afterwards, but it will dry out a bit.
Oatmeal Banana Bread
To freeze: Allow bread to cool completely. Wrap in 2-3 layers of plastic wrap or aluminum foil and place in a ziplock bag or freezer container. Banana bread will stay fresh in the freezer for up to 3-4 months.
